Oscar Nominations: The Good, The Bad, and The Snubbed

The Good

- Overall, I wasn't thrilled with films of 2025. There's still a lot I have to see (might do a catchup today, actually), but it's nice to see that 3 out of my top 5 films are being recognized. Bugonia is my favorite of the year so I'm happy to see nominations for Emma Stone, Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay etc. I think Sinners is a bit overrated, but I still rated it a solid 4 stars for a lot of reasons. Sometimes it's nice to see a hugely popular film, especially a black led and directed film, receive recognition like this. I'm rooting for it in a lot of the technical categories (Costume and Set Design, in particular). And, I was super disappointed by One Battle After Another, but it's still in my top 5 (because, again, 2025 sucked), so I guess...good?

- I'm SO ecstatic for Rose Byrne. I've been the biggest fan of hers for, like, the last 20 years. I haven't seen If I Had Legs I'd Kick You yet, but I will always root for her. I think I'm even rooting for her over Emma Stone just BECAUSE.

- ELLE FANNING OSCAR NOMINEE!! She's the cutest.

- AMY MADIGAN! Between this and Sinners, it's incredible to finally see horror being recognized. She's so iconic in Weapons - a character that will be remembered forever.

- I'm actually really relieved that Wicked: For Good was shut out. I haven't seen it, but splitting a two hour story into two movies (totaling almost 5 hours) was never a good idea - and they all already received their awards and praise. Let others shine now.

The Bad

- First of all, LOL at F1 Best Picture nominee.

- I know I'm in the minority (nothing new for me), but I thought Michael B. Jordan was the worst part of Sinners. I also described it as "technically ugly", so the cinematography nomination is something

- Timothee Chalamet (Chamalet?) needs to be stopped. I've never seen someone *this* mediocre receive so much praise. It's a little ridiculous. I'm rooting for Wagner Moura to kick his ass. Or Leo. I'm always up for a Leo win. It's times like these that I realize how inconsequential these awards are to actually rate someone's talent because Timmy has been nominated THREE times already and James McAvoy has ZERO nominations. And I don't think a single person on this Earth would argue that Chamalet (Chalamet?) is more talented than James McAvoy.

- I haven't seen (or even heard of??) the film that Kate Hudson is in, but I've also never seen Hudson...give an award-worthy performance...ever. I find this nomination really hard to believe.

The Snubbed

- Jesse Plemons & Yorgos Lanthimos are the biggest snubs for me that actually had a chance, however the REAL snub is someone who was never even in the awards conversation - Florence Pugh for Thunderbolts*. It's a stunning performance. I think if they actually did an Oscar campaign (which Marvel has done before with Black Panther), she would have had a chance.

- Jack O'Connell was the BEST part of Sinners. Period. I hope Delroy Lindo wins because he's been snubbed multiple times, but I don't think he gave a better performance than O'Connell?? It's wild, actually.

- I'm actually surprised that Sorry, Baby did not get an Original Screenplay nomination? I think it was expected to. It was definitely my favorite screenplay of 2025.

- That's all I got!! I haven't seen enough to care about the rest of the reported snubs.
