'Glee' - 50 Best Lines From Season 2

Spending my summer missing 'Glee' and re-watching season 2. Here are my favorite lines from the season: (p.s I posted season 1 lines a while ago - 35 of them....this time I could not narrow it down - 50 is the best I could do). (p.s.s I started in order...but that got too time consuming.)

22. Give me some chocolate or I will cut you - Becky (dressed as Sue for Halloween).

23. Sorry, but I wanted to sing about Jesus - I'd go to church. The reason I don't go to church is because most churches don't think very much of gay people. Or women. Or science. - Kurt

Emmy Nominations: 7 That Won't Make The Cut (But Deserve It!!)

Emmy nominations are around the corner - instead of going through each category and choosing who I think deserve nominations I decided to write a post listing those who will likely be overlooked but are deserving. Here we go:

1. Candice Accola ('The Vampire diaries') – Season 1 focused on the 3 main stars- Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder and the super sexy Paul Wesley. They did a fantastic job at turning another "vampire tale" into an incredible "must watch" show. Of course, all three were snubbed last awards season and the same thing will likely happen to the supporting cast who took on some major story arc’s this season – like Michael Trevino, Steven McQueen and Candice Accola. I chose Candice to represent all of the supporting cast on this show because I actually thought she was a weak actress in season 1 - definitely the weakest link on the show. She proved me wrong and I freaking LOVE it (I soooo want Dianna Agron to do the same thing on Glee but sadly she just keeps getting worse). A lot has happened to Caroline Forbes this season – gone is the spoiled, vapid girl whose only care was what she would be wearing to the spring fling. Literally – gone…as in dead…..because she became a vampire!! And the transition was gut-wrenching. Her character is also in a love triangle that is slightly more interesting than the Damon-Elena-Stefan triangle. She fell in love with Matt, but then forged a strong bond with Tyler Lockwood (who in theory is an enemy as he is now a werewolf). She had to convince me to care about her and her relationship with her mother and she succeeded brilliantly. Sadly, her work will go unnoticed by the “real” critics.

2. 'Southland' – I am really hoping that someone…anyone from the cast gets a nomination because I think it will at least be a nice validation for us Southland fans. I think based on Season 3, Shawn Hatosy has probably the strongest chance at a nomination (because he had an amazing story arc) but I could argue that Ben McKenzie (aka grown up Ryan Atwood) is the most consistent. I am really pulling for Hatosy because he is one of those actors that I grew up watching (The Faculty, Outside Providence) but he never really stood out until this show. He really holds his own amongst a strong cast of fantastic actors (Michael Cudlitz, Regina King, Kevin Alejandro). However, I think it is pretty close to a 0% chance that the show would receive a nomination – which is a damn shame. It is one of the strongest dramas on television – with conflicted characters, fast-paced action and drama that unfolds rather quickly (instead of dragging on forever…ahem…The Killing….ahem). The show is also filled with jaw dropping, WTF just happened moments like when Nate got killed – that episode will stay with me forever as one of the most unexpected deaths on t.v (the whole episode is set up to make you think something happened to Sammy’s unborn baby – it was a pure genius move). I really enjoy that they make all of the characters unlikable at some point – with very realistic human flaws (although I find it impossible to hate on Ben – he’s just too adorable). It's a shame that such a strong show will be overlooked.

3. Busy Phillips/Christa Miller ('Cougar Town') – I can't choose between the two - together they form hands down the best 'frenemy' relationship on television. While I am happy to see that Busy just won the Critics Choice award for Supporting Actress, I have a strong feeling that this won’t translate to the Emmy Awards. The supporting cast of Cougar Town is hilarious – all of them. However, Laurie stands out as one of those characters that I would usually dislike (annoying, dumb, insecure, desperate etc), but somehow Busy makes the character work. I actually like her and I want to give her a big hug and tell her to believe in herself…corny but oh so true. I love the tension between her character and Ellie (Jules’ other bff) – they hilariously tear each other apart but you know they secretly love each other. Christa is hilarious as the bitchy, snide but sometimes vulnerable woman - she has some of the best lines on the show and her delivery is always perfection. P.s - I am confident that Courtney Cox will make the cut this year.

4. Joel McHale ('The Soup') – Yes, he is fantastic as the cocky, sarcastic playboy Jeff Winger on Community, but I look forward to him every week as the host of The Soup – where he is self-deprecating, hilarious and still sarcastic. I know that most of The Soup’s hilariousness should be credited to the writing staff – but so can most “Variety” shows (Leno, Fallon, Stewart), we all know that the enjoyment factor comes right down to how lovable the host is….and McHale is swoon worthy.

5. Mae Whitman ('Parenthood') - How does she outshine one of the best actors on television (Peter Krause) every week? I have no idea - but she does and she deserves an Emmy nomination for it. It helps that her character is the one that I can relate to the most - she portrays teen angst with heartbreaking realism because she actually has a reason to have angst (unlike other teens on tv....). Her father is a fuck up and her mom has made a lot of mistakes, which causes her to be perpetually angry but then towards the end of the season she realizes that her mom is human and is doing the best she can - her transition from angry to self-reproachful was beautiful. Mae is a rare young actress that commands my attention when she is onscreen yet she is not dramatic and obvious - her acting is subtle yet penetrating.....Emmy worthy.

6. Cory Monteith ('Glee') – In my mind, Cory has already won the Emmy for his role as Finn Hudson on Glee. He has won a lot of other awards in my mind as well – like “most adorable man ever”, “hardest working actor on t.v” and the award for “most likely to get me to cook him breakfast the morning after…”. But, let us be serious for a second, on a series with such an amazingly talented ensemble cast – I think Cory has been the most consistent. He elevates what could very easily be a just another dumb jock role to a complicated, endearing and naive teenage boy – but more importantly a realistic one. In all honesty – the second season of Glee was a little shaky but every episode that relied heavily on “Finn” ended up being the strongest and most solid episodes of the season (Furt, Special Education, The Sue Sylvester Bowl Shuffle..). He has that rare thing called "charisma", his ability to express emotion with his facial expressions always impresses the heck out of me, his singing has improved tremendously (because he works his ass off), even when he is in the background he is always doing something entertaining AND if you consider that his role is considered in the “comedy” category – he is hands down the funniest male character on the show (which is why Chris Colfer’s inevitable nomination for his role as Kurt is complicated – it is not exactly laugh out loud funny especially this past season). Sadly, he is guaranteed an Emmy snub so he will just have to settle for the awards I make up in my head....like "hottest former bad boy" or "best worst dancer on tv".

7. 'Fringe' - While I fully expect that Anna Torv and John Noble will be nominated for their work on the show, I doubt the series will make the cut. This past season was the best yet - with epic story lines about alternate universes that are at war with each other mixed with smaller 'fringe' cases that somehow turn science fiction into everyday events. The writing on the show is fantastic - presenting us with the alternate universe with alternate characters like "Altivia" and "Walternate" who are essentially the same characters but yet somehow different. To be able to pull that off - and make us actually care about this "other" world is beyond amazing. The show is grounded by its characters who are flawed but lovable and it presents us with plots that are completely unrealistic but somehow are given very realistic "scientific" explanations - so even if someone isn't all that interested in shows about supernatural events - I think they can still enjoy this one. I would say it is JJ's best attempt yet at creating a series that feels complete (unlike Lost and Alias - where he got too caught up in creating mystery and had too many good ideas shoved together). Forget the nomination - the show should win the freakin' Emmy (I only say this because Breaking Bad isn't eligible this year and I have not seen the past season of Dexter yet).

4 Things I Learned About Paris Hilton From 'The World According to Paris'

I have something quite embarrassing to admit - I watch 'The World According to Paris'. It is really bad and I have no excuse as to why I didn't stop watching after the first awful episode. It just keeps getting worse and I can't even use the excuse of it being a "guilty pleasure" because it is not the least bit pleasurable. The show does shine some light on who Paris is - and is it sure ain't pretty....

1. She's not funny without Nicole - So, I willfully admit back in the day that I used to watch The Simple Life. I wasn't obsessed or anything, but when it was on....I would watch....and I would laugh my ass off. It actually made me give a smidgen of respect for Paris Hilton because she seemed to "get it". She understood the ridiculousness of her existence and she used it to her advantage and capitalized on it - In theory that would make her a smart business woman. She made fun of herself for being vacant, self-obsessed and elitist. On The World According to Paris, I don't laugh at all - which made me realize it was really Nicole all along that was the "funny" one and Paris just went along with the joke. This show is almost painfully unfunny, it is downright disturbing. The only time I laughed was when she thought she might be pregnant because she was gaining weight - she steps on the scale and her gigantic feet took up the whole scale - but it just made me long for Nicole's presence, surely she would have said something witty. And - FYI Paris it takes like a minute to take a pregnancy test it doesn't need to fill up a whole episode. And, you really shouldn't tell everyone before you even take a test. Dumb ass.

2. She's a walking contradiction - literally, she walks on the beach with a camera crew filming her romantic getaway all while complaining that she doesn't get any privacy. She drives a puke pink, obnoxiously obvious car around Beverly Hills, but doesn't understand why the paparazzi always knows where she is. She talks about being "almost 30" and needing to grow up but admits that she uses her "baby voice" to get what she wants. Here is my advice Paris - embrace the fact that you are an attention whore - at least you would gain that ounce of respect I had for you back.

3. She's a backstabber - She constantly talks about her assistant behind her back (and on camera) as well as her friends assistant but then is really nice to their face. She also doesn't really say the greatest things about her mom, her now ex-boyfriend and Brooke. If I were any of these people I would be really offended by her show.

4. She is not even interesting enough to fill up her own show - Why is this show about Brooke Mueller going to rehab? Seriously, I could give a fuck about this woman.

4 Reasons Why 'The Roommate' Will Be On 'My Worst Films of 2011' List.

So I watched 'The Roommate' the other day - figuring it to be a mindless but entertaining horror flick. Unfortunately it was pretty crappy - as EW.com puts it "The Roommate' isn't even bad enough to be good." Here is why I didn't like it:

1. Obviously, it is unoriginal - That doesn't necessarily mean it has to be bad. Single White Female was released almost 20 years ago - it was about time for an update. The problem is that they don't really update it at all. If you think about how much has changed in 20 years with technology alone and how much easier it is to stalk people and become obsessive (cell phones, facebook, GPS tracking). There is a lot to work with here - yet the film pretty much avoids all of these things and relies on characters forgetting their phones and the stalker using her time to draw the same picture of her obsession over and over again. It was just such a waisted opportunity.

2. Rebecca isn't all that scary - Creepy...sure. She does stare at people, which I guess makes others uncomfortable but nowadays turning the lights on and off while someone showers then attacking them by ripping out their belly ring is kind of tame. Today's standard of horror films is that people need to die or at least more brutally attacked. In the end, she didn't even kill anyone - except a very innocent little kitten (I would have preferred a person). Oh wait...did she kill the ex-boyfriend? I think that happened....but it was so freaking tame that I don't really remember it!! Therefore....it doesn't even count in my mind.

3. Minka Kelly = J Lo without personality - they look alike, they sound alike and Minka is able to pull off that "adorable, clumsy female" role that J Lo perfected many times - she just doesn't have the same presence on screen that J Lo commands. Her character is downright boring in this film. The only thing that we know about her is that she is a fashion design student but there are 2 things wrong with that: First, anyone serious about fashion design would go to school in NYC not LA. Second, I assume that Minka's character is supposed to be "stylish" yet there is nothing stylish about her (adding a scarf and a fedora to every outfit doesn't make the cut). Her character very astutely states that money cannot by you style, but it can buy you a stylist - yet this film was in desperate need of a new one.

4. Apparently, they limited the casting to "must be an actor/actress on a current CW show" - Aside from Minka and the super hot Cam Gigandet, everyone else is from the CW. The obvious CW actress is Leighton Meester (who was actually the best part of the film - aside from some over-acting towards the end). She brought some of her CW cohorts such as: the blond girl from Hellcats, Nina Dobrev and Katerina Graham from The Vampire Diaries and the hot guy from 90210 (not Teddy...the other one). The thing is - they underused all of them. The blond girl (I am way too lazy to look up her name...Aly Mich something...) was actually really funny in Easy A and I was looking forward to her being the same here, Nina Dobrev played a pivotal role of Maria (Rebecca's former obsession) but they never really explain what happened aside from giving Nina one line "We were never friends". Um....ok....then what were you? Katerina disappeared after about 20 minutes and hot guy had one scene (at least he was shirtless).

4 DVD's to Watch; 4 to Avoid

I watched a lot of DVD's in the past few weeks....here is what I recommend that you watch and what you should avoid...

Watch:

1. Rabbit Hole - I really liked this film - much more than I though I would. I assumed that the acting would be fantastic and that the film would be sad since it is about a couple who are dealing with a tragic accident that resulted in the death of their son. But, I really appreciated that the film was more about how people handle death and how different that process can be for everyone. The two aspects that I really appreciated were that it wasn't just about the parents - it also showed how it effected the teenager who is ultimately responsible for their sons death (although it was an accident - he will forever be traumatized with guilt) and the grandmother (who lost her adult son to a drug overdose - she feels the need to compare the 2 losses). The other aspect that I really loved was that it showed how Atheists deal with death - at least I assume Nicole's character to be Atheist. As an Atheist, I honestly think that death is a little harder to deal with if you don't believe that people are "in a better place" when they die or that it is part of "Gods plan". Instead, death is an ending - there is no rhyme or reason to it. I found it interesting that the idea of a parallel universe brings comfort to her character (which scientifically is more believable than an "afterlife"). All in all, I loved the story, the characters, the acting and the sadness of the film. Really well done.

2. The Kings Speech - I will preface this review with: This film should NOT have won the Academy Award for Best Picture, in fact I'm pretty sure it should not have been nominated. Yes, it was entertaining and well-acted but overall it was a pretty simple, pretty mediocre film. It is worth watching if you are a fan of Colin Firth or Geoffrey Rush (who was pretty close to perfect). Yet, even being a huge fan of Colin - I don't even see his performance as Oscar worthy and certainly not on the same playing field as James Franco's performance in 127 Hours). It is pretty interesting that they turned something as boring as a speech impediment and made an entire film about it - and for the most part it was pretty entertaining. On a side note - don't you wish we lived in a time where we were required to memorize and recite Shakespeare? I would fucking rule at that!!

3. Blue Valentine - While I feel this films advertising was completely misleading, I still loved everything about it. I was under the impression that it was about how these two people fell in love - two hipsters finding and wooing each other in the city. However, it was mostly about how these two fell out of love and actually it was more about her falling out of love with him (and makes you wonder if she was ever in love to begin with or if their relationship was based on some pretty adrenaline and hormonally rushed decisions). I do believe that men are more romantic than women which is often not portrayed in films (because it is sooo not cool for a guy to be romantic...). The film is devastating to watch because it is incredibly realistic - the plot, the characters, the scenery - everything was very raw and felt very gritty. I will also tell you that the whole NC-17 fiasco was completely ridiculous - almost laughable now that I have seen the film. I watched Love and Other Drugs right before his (more on this in the "avoid" section of the post) and it was so much worse as far as graphic nudity and sex - yet I didn't read about anyone fussing over it's ratings...is it just because Blue Valentine was more realistic? Fascinating.

4. The Company Men - wow - 2010 was a really good career year for Ben Affleck in my opinion. He really shined in The Town (as director and actor) but was overlooked come awards season - but I am surprised that he was overlooked again for this film. It was a much smaller film, but it is so relevant to today's world and filled with amazing performances (by Tommy Lee Jones, Chris Cooper and Kevin Costner (who I usually hate)). The film is about the downsizing of a big corporation which leads to lots of people being unemployed. I think the film did a great job at showing how difficult it is to get a job nowadays (especially if you are older), how unjust the economy is (CEO's making millions while firing hard-working people) and how difficult it is to admit that you need help. I really liked it and it had my attention for its entire running time (which is increasingly more difficult..).

Avoid:

1. How Do You Know - I would compare this film to watching paint dry. It was not funny, romantic or entertaining in the least. I get that it was about "normal" people trying to meet and that it was supposed to be a bit awkward - but when your main characters have no discernible traits the audience will have not care what happens to them. The film was slightly anti-feminist because the main character consistently apologizes to men (even when she does nothing wrong) - in one scene with her and Paul Rudd's character- I counted 5 "I'm Sorry's" within a 10 minute long scene. It made her pathetic and weak. The film was also very obvious -is it really ever a doubt as to who she should end up with (i.e - not the douche)? The only part of the film that I enjoyed was that Reese's character believes that a lot of girls in relationships are pretending to be happy - which I agree with. But then if you have main character that is that astute then why is she spending the whole film desperately trying to find the right guy?

2. Case 39 - 3 words why I bothered to see such an awful film that should have been released straight to DVD.....Bradley Fucking Cooper. And let me tell you....he looked gooooood....like Will Tippen good. I actually think that the ONLY reason this film was ever even released was because of his new found Hangover success (it was filmed like 10 years ago - you can tell by the old fashion flip cell phone and the huge tv). The film is pure trash - the plot is stupid and predictable and for a "scary" movie it was void of any jump out of your seat moments. The only thing it had going for it is that children are always creepy (and Jodelle Ferland did a great job at the creepiness). The only gross moment was the hornet scene (it was also a sad scene because then I realized there would be no more eye candy...). I am really not a fan of Renee Zellweger - sometimes she can be really amazing like with the Bridget Jones films and I loved her in Chicago, but then with films like these I really hate her and her cheek implants.

3. Love and Other Drugs - Really badly advertised. Do you know what this film is about? Because it is NOT about some asshole sales rep trying to sell Viagra. Instead it is about the asshole sales rep falling in love with a girl who has early onset Parkinson's Disease and it is probably one of the most depressing things I have ever seen. They have a lot of sex and they fight a lot. That is basically the movie...there I just saved you 2 hours of your life - you can thank me later. I usually like Anne Hathaway but she was grating in this film and I am about the only girl I know who doesn't think Jake is hot (those sad puppy dog eyes do nothing for me).

4. Let Me In - It wasn't bad, it was basically the exact film as the Swedish version Let the Right One in, just slightly Americanized. I just don't understand what the point is of making another version....I guess if you refuse to watch a film with subtitles then you should see this version - otherwise see the original, it is superior in its subtlety and beauty.

3 Reasons Why 'Super 8' Was Super Great

I am happy to say that I saw an awesome movie a few nights ago - 'Super 8'!! I went into the theater completely spoiler free (which is part of what made it so awesome) so I don't want to ruin the experience for anyone (the only way I can truly describe it is that it is just that: An Experience). Here is what I can say about it:

1. It’s very much a “JJ Abrams” film – As a huge JJ fan, I can say that my expectations were super high - I have seen him be not just creative but downright innovative. I have been disappointed by JJ before (recently with Undercovers). While some are calling this film “unoriginal” or “Spielbergian” – I personally think it is very clearly a JJ creation. Yes, he pays a respectful homage to past Spielberg films such as E.T. and Stand By Me but it was not a copy of any film. In fact it has several "JJ" elements such as:
- a threat that we don’t actually see until more than ½ way into the film (a' la Cloverfield, Lost )
- people with “daddy issues” (a' la Lost, Alias)
- a steady pace of action, plot and character development (a' la Star Trek)
- a sci-fi tale that is grounded in reality (ala pretty much everything he has ever done minus Felicity).

2. The kids are kids – To be honest, films like this just don't exist anymore - which sort of makes me sad. When I think about great films starring middle school aged kids my mind goes straight to The Goonies or even better - Stand By Me. I think we live in a world where kids are glued to the Internet and/or video games (and aren't that interesting). This film brings the kids "adventure tale" back outside but still keeps it relevant by having the kids make a film (which is totally awesome for all sci-fi geeks). Also, the kids actually felt like a real group of friends - kudos to the casting director.

3. The melodrama was tolerable - I admit the ending was a bit over-dramatic and mushy but it somehow worked because the whole film was built up to evoke emotion - if you didn't feel something you might be dead inside.

3 Reasons I Loved 'X-Men:First Class' ; 2 Reasons I Hated It

I was sort of indifferent about seeing 'X-Men: First Class' because the last 2 'X-Men' films were pretty bland, plus the marketing for this one was not very enticing...like at all. However, I adore James McAvoy & January Jones, plus the reviews were mostly positive. I am happy to say that it was better that I expected, but it was also very bad in some ways.

Here is why I loved it:

1. James McAvoy makes every film better - I've never seen him in a bad performance (bad films...sure...ahem. Penelope. ahem). He is usually the best part of a film, and in this film he is truly fantastic.

2. *****spoiler alert*******Hugh Jackman's 10 second cameo is worth the price of admission - I heard there was a spectacular cameo but this was really, truly freakin' hilarious - best part of the whole film.

3. The back story - There was an article in Entertainment Weekly about how re-telling historical events is trendy in films right now, they mention this films version of the Cuban Missile Crisis. I agree, that this gives the film a real sense of urgency and realism (which is usually not found in "super hero" films). I would love to see how the X-Men were involved in other historical events - all kinds of awesome.

Here is why I hated it:

1. The women - The reason women fail in superhero films: They cast "hot" over "talented". Let's face it these types of films are cheese central, so it really takes a TALENTED actor to truly pull off the ridiculous scenarios and simple dialogue. I thought for sure that Matthew Vaughn actually got it right by casting odd choices like Jennifer Lawrence and January Jones. Unfortunately, they both failed miserably. So, what went wrong? I think it is simply too early to tell if Jennifer Lawrence can actually act or if she just fit the role in Winter's Bone so perfectly. The true test will be The Hunger Games. I was more disappointed by January Jones because I love her! She is truly fantastic on Mad Men - why wasn't she able to display the same amount of "iciness" in this film? Come on January - I can only stick up for you for so long (especially after the embarrassment that was SNL).

2. The mediocrity - Although the film was better than I expected, I wouldn't say it was great. The story was a little choppy, the "other" X-Men weren't very interesting and actually pretty forgettable, the action and special effects were less than spectacular especially for a summer blockbuster - all in all pretty mediocre.

5 Things I Learned From the MTV Movie Awards

Everyone knew that this year's MTV Movie Awards would be exactly like last year's - 'Twilight' wins everything! The show was a disaster like usual - but I did learn a few things:

1. Robert Pattinson is a bumbling idiot - I always sort of enjoyed that awkwardness that exudes out of Kristen Stewart because she reminds me of how I would likely react if thousands of cameras were flashing in my face, but I was under the impression that R.Patz was a charming, lovable heartthrob. The thing is - I don't find him physically attractive at all, so the fact that he has zero personality bothers me tremendously. His intro to Reese Witherspoon's 'Generation Award' was truly painful to watch. First, he brought a cheat sheet with him - I get when actors win awards they might bring a cheat sheet because they don't want to forget to thank someone - but this was a minute long speech that he wrote! You are an actor - MEMORIZE IT. Second, he couldn't even read his own speech - half of it didn't even make sense, he mumbled through it and he didn't even deliver the punchline correctly. Third, his maturity level is about the same as a 6 year old - instead of pulling himself together he just kept laughing at himself. You know Patrick Dempsey was thinking the same thing as me "This guy?....really?".

2. Two guys kissing isn't front page news - In fact, if I didn't watch the show - I may have not know that it actually happened. While, Robert Pattinson is now on my shit list - I appreciate that he planted one (or three) on his male co-star Taylor Lautner (who I also find completely unattractive. Nice abs...sure - but the rest is not so great). I find it strange that when 2 girls kiss at these shows - it is reported everywhere! I guess because it is more acceptable in our society. Anyway, Go Rob!

3. Reese Witherspoon is cooler than I thought she was - I admit, I have always been a bit jealous of Reese - she was married to the hottest man alive. I was always a bit of a hater - but now my perception of her might change a little bit. I do think it is weird for her to win this award this year - when her recent films flopped (Like Water For Elephants, How do You Know), but I have a new found respect for her after the amazing speech she gave. First, she explains Robs joke in under a second. Second, she refuses to kiss Chelsea Handler because she is a slut (but they are friends so it's ok). Lastly, she goes after all the girls in Hollywood that have sex tapes and nude photos all over the tabloids - telling them that they should be embarrassed. I sincerely wish her luck in making good girls "cool" because - honestly, it has to be done. ASAP.

4. Jason "Sudoku" wasn't the best hosting choice - Again, I say Justin Timberlake would kill at a hosting gig like this. Jason's monologue was very "Arnold"-centric, which is like a 2 week old news story (which for this generation is like ancient history). He started to get funny when he made fun of girls in the audience like Selena, Kristen and Emma (who proved to be funnier than the host with one stare), but then I think he wimped out. I did enjoy the joke at the end about possibly being a father - too bad no one really got it.

5. Jim Carrey made me laugh (it's been a long time...) - "Foo can be pretty nasty stuff, so I am glad there is someone out there fighting it".

3 Things I Was Expecting From 'The Hangover Part II'

Can you believe I fought with the crowds and watched 'The Hangover Part II' this weekend? I usually can't handle seeing big films on opening weekend but I was just so excited for this film that I had to see it ASAP. I have to say, the film was exactly what I was expecting which I think is why people are finding it disappointing. Here is what I was expecting:

1. The Hangover again - If you didn't realize from the trailer that the film was going to parallel the first film, then you deserve to be disappointed. The film's basic synopsis is that the 'wolf-pack' go to Thailand for Stu's wedding, they have a wild & crazy night that they can't remember the next day. Do you recognize the plot? Yes? O.k then stop complaining.

2. Hilarity & Vulgarity- I didn't laugh as much as the first (which is what I expected), but I still thought it was funnier than most recent comedies (actually Bridesmaids might have them beat). Plus, most of the memorable jokes in the first one were the vulgar ones (i.e - having Mr. Chow jump out of the trunk naked, the hilarious photos during the credits etc) so obviously they would try to top themselves (i.e - chicks with dicks).

3. Bradley Cooper radiating heat - That boy is HOT - literally and figuratively. Even in 100 degree weather covered in dirt & sweat he looks good. I have no complaints.

5 Things That Surprised Me About 'Bridesmaids'

I went to see the much hyped 'Bridesmaids' last week and was really surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Here is why:

1. It was hilarious - I assumed it would be amusing with the talent that was involved plus the trailer had some funny aspects but I didn't realize it would be downright-pee-in-your-pants-freakin'-hilarious for the entire 2 hour running time. I can't even pick a favorite funny moment because the whole thing was equally funny but the things that stand out are: When Annie is "trying" to get pulled over. I was practically in tears after that scene. I don't know why but Annie telling the Asian couple that you can't trust the person you're in a relationship with and she says "he might not even be Asian" - I am still laughing at that one.

2. Kristen Wiig isn't as grating as she is on SNL - I don't have anything against her really, but I think she plays the same character in every sketch. She is over-used on the show (because sadly, she is the most talented current cast member). Her voice makes my skin crawl and it just becomes really hard to watch after about 5 minutes. So, I hesitated watching a film starring her (that she helped write) because I thought she was going to get on my nerves. However, she was sheer perfection in this film. Kristen tones her usual high-energy personality down and becomes this very realistic and vulnerable woman. My heart was breaking for her through the entire film.

3. The supporting actors steal the film - I didn't really know who was in the film aside from Kristen, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy and Jon Hamm. I was delighted to see Wendi McLendon (from Reno 911), Rose Byrne (who we learned was funny from Get Him to the Greek) and the late Jill Clayburgh. But I was even more surprised to see two of my favorite BBC actors - Matt Lucas (from the sketch comedy Little Britain) and Chris O'Dowd (from The IT Crowd). Everyone in this film shined, all "stealing the spotlight" at some point in the film.

4. It was still a chick flick - I was excited by the fact that it was described as 'the anti-chick flick'. A film starring all women about a bridal party.....how could they possibly make this into anything but a chick flick? The answer....they didn't. Before I saw the film, a friend of mine (a guy) described the film as "really funny....for a chick film". After seeing the film, I agree with him. I think people are just surprised that women can ACTUALLY BE FUNNY. And raunchy. And sexy. All at the same time. However, the film itself is a story about a woman who is in complete shambles. She is insecure (she lets herself be used by a a guy who clearly doesn't care about her) and jealous (of her friend getting married and of the same friend's new friend - who she sees as competition). Then, guess what she meets a guy and even though she spends most of the film sabotaging this potential relationship....in the end all is well and they end up together. Classic. Chick. Flick.

5. The music - if you weren't smiling at the end with the appearance of Wilson Phillips then you have no soul (or are too young to remember their awesomeness). I LOVED it!! But even better was one of my favorite songs ever - Fiona Apple's 'Paper Bag' playing while Annie was baking. This song is like the theme song to my life, so I was floored that they used it for Annie's story. It is the perfect song.
